NRC vs DRC Roasted Chicory Cubes: Which Grade Should You Buy?
Compare normal roast (NRC) and dark roast (DRC) chicory cubes for coffee blending — color, flavor, and when each grade wins.
Why roast depth matters in blends
Roasted chicory cubes are a workhorse for coffee blenders who want body and roasted notes without carrying all cost in beans. Normal roast (NRC) and dark roast (DRC) are the two profiles buyers ask for most.
NRC — normal roast
NRC cubes typically show a golden to medium brown color with milder caramel character. They suit everyday chicory-coffee mixes and programs where you want contribution without overpowering the coffee.
- Balanced cup
- Everyday blends
- Often 8–12 mm cubes
DRC — dark roast
DRC cubes run darker — deep brown to near-black — with a more robust, coffee-like intensity. Buyers choose DRC when the blend target is stronger color and roast character.
How to choose
If your brand already has a milder chicory note, start with NRC. If you need intensity or darker cup targets, shortlist DRC. Many importers trial both samples side by side before locking an annual volume.
